Tonight LOCO Roller Derby will appear as Safety Sisters at London, Ontario’s TAKE BACK THE NIGHT walk. The rally starts at 6:45 at Victoria Park, followed by a march at 7:30 and after party at London’s truly fun night club on Dundas St., LAVISH.
Kitchener is hosting a fundraiser called ROLL-A-THON! Similar to London’s Skate-A-Thon, the Roll-A-Thon invites anyone to participate and bring donations, including those who are not part of LOCO. As well, 25% of the funds raised will go to the YMCA Strong Kids program.
LOCO Brantford launches this September 26th at 8 pm. Come to Woodman Park Community Centre, 491 Grey St. in Brantford for an Open House, Info Session and First Practice. $5 if you skate. Wayne approves! (photo courtesy of canadaswalkoffame.com)
LOCO’s Skate-A-Thon for 2011 was a huge success. As usual, everyone had a blast skating in the park together and enjoyed a delicious potluck lunch with friends and family. We raised approximately $240 for the YMCA Strong Kids program and the rest of the funds went to LOCO. Many thanks to all the skaters and their pals who made Skate-A-Thon 2011 so amazing!
There is no practice at the YMCA on July 29, 2011 because LOCO will be having an outdoor skate and meet-up at our Ribfest booth. Skaters, check your email for information about where to meet up this week. And for everyone we met at Pride this weekend, it was great to meet you! Stop by Ribfest and say hi. And if you aren’t vegetarian enjoy some delicious meat. Mmmmmm.
Final Score: 34 – 20
With skaters from our London and Kitchener Chapters, LOCO met with Rollergettes’ Fresh Meat for a Mini-Bout of 20 minutes. It was a short game, but action packed and full of some incredible strategy. Our spectators were impressed with how intense low-contact modified derby is, going to show that it’s still the same game and deserves respect! We celebrated with a few heads in the ice bucket – boy, was it hot!
Special thanks to Vegas, LOCO’s VP Trainer and VP London who whipped the team into shape even if she couldn’t be there at the game.
Watch for LOCO Roller Derby in the Pride Festival Parade, on July 24, 2011.
Starting at noon, we’ll be leaving the Western Fair Grounds on the Ontario St. side and head down King St. to the festival site at King & Clarence. Skaters are asked to meet at the Western Fair Grounds starting at 11 am to prepare. We’re also looking for skater volunteers to man our booth at the festival site all weekend.
Come to our booth to purchase LOCO Wear and clothes by InDeeTees.
