December Wrap-Up and LOCO Roller Derby grows!

The bout last night was 6 on 6 teams, so we played shorter periods and 3 on 3 Blocker action. In the first period, the lead was back and forth, but scoring was way down from our last bout, showing big improvement in the low contact blocking of both teams. We even had a few friends and new skaters as score keepers and and spectators. It was a ton of fun! We rounded out the second period with a score of Red Shirts 56 to Black Hats 50, and asked our spectators for support. The third period kicked off, and the score was up to 62-56. Black Hats were pushing to catch up and win the bout, and then a fall on the third turn by Chlorine, led to some blocking in the straight-away after turn four with Rami California going down backwards. The Bout was called at 62-58 when black was forced to forfeit with only 4 players left. Don’t worry, the injuries are minor and the women are recovering this morning at home.

In other news, we have lots of new skaters joining in 2011, and LOCO Roller Derby in London, ON is now available to invite your recreational teams and groups, or your WFTDA farm and rookie teams out to scrimmage with us in 2011 under a low contact rule set.  Contact info@locorollerderby.com if you are interested.  LOCO will be back to regularly scheduled practices on January 7, 2011 in London.

Sign up! If you’re in the Kitchener/Waterloo area of Ontario sign up for Kitchener LOCO Roller Derby! It starts in January. We’ll be planning a special info session, and start skating January 6, 2011.  Send your name and email to kitchener@locorollerderby.com!

Happy Holidays to all and we will see in 2011!

LOCO Roller Derby skates into Kitchener this January!

LOCO Roller Derby is proud to announce that a Kitchener, Ontario chapter will be starting weekly practices on January 6, 2011. Join us for LOCO Roller Derby practices every Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Kitchener’s Queensmount Arena.

Even if you have never roller skated before, you are welcome to join!  We will teach you how to roller skate for playing the sport of roller derby while educating you on the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA) rules of modern flat-track roller derby.  We will train you like any other roller girl using the same skills-development methods used by full-contact leagues, but focused on a low-contact style.

LOCO is not affiliated with the local WFTDA full-contact Tri-City Roller Girls, however, we are big fans and will be volunteering at TCRG bouts in 2011 when they need us. We encourage you to check out TCRG for the full-contact WFTDA roller derby experience. LOCO Roller Derby is perfect for you if you are unable to commit to semi-professional roller derby league requirements, you are a “retired” competitive roller derby skater, or you simply want to learn the sport in a low-contact environment before moving up to play with the hard-hitters of competitive leagues!  Whatever the case, LOCO’s focus is on fun, fitness and friendship with low contact, low costs, and lower commitment levels ideal for any aspiring roller skater!

Skaters must be female and 18 years of age or older. All skaters will be required to purchase insurance, and their own roller skates and equipment. $5 per night (or 10 practices for $40), and $5 per month is all it takes to get into roller derby in 2011 in Kitchener!

For more information, or to sign up to attend the first practice, please contact Pepper Assault at kitchener@locorollerderby.com

To sponsor LOCO Roller Derby or for any information about the league in general, contact our Board of Directors at info@locorollerderby.com,

LOCO Roller Derby will continue operations in London, ON with the exact same focus and format and can be reached at london@locorollerderby.com for practice information, or private, public and open scrimmage information as the London chapter is ready to play with any roller derby fresh meat, recreational, or rookie teams out there, with a reduced contact WFTDA ruleset and will continue to host open scrimmages each month.

Welcome, LOCO skaters in Kitchener!
