London’s LOCO Roller Derby gets ready for scrimmaging

Thank you to all who donated. We raised $60 for the Canadian Mental Health Association, which will result in LOCO Roller Derby obtaining a set of league helmet panties, and knowing we did a good deed in donating to a good cause.

In other news, we did skill testing tonight, and all of our attending skaters passed to a level high enough that we’ll be bringing scrimmaging into our practices more often, and for more serious practice of roller derby, while continuing drills to increase the skill levels. But don’t worry. We always have a beginner’s trainer on hand, and a beginner’s area for safety, so don’t be intimidated, we’ll help you get started!

Don’t forget, you can support LOCO Roller Derby and keep us providing gear for our new skaters and getting more people skating, by buying LOCO Roller Derby T-shirts. $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Ask any LOCO Roller Derby skater to order! Shirts are now available in women’s fitted, women’s tank, and men’s /unisex styles and sizes, and come with optional name and number on the back. In red or black color choices.

Please note: Practices are closed on Friday May  21, 2010 in observance of the long weekend for Victoria Day on May 24. We’ll see you back on the track on Friday May 28, 2010, at the YMCA Centre Branch, corner Waterloo and King, London, Ontario! Watch for the next event, and keep skating!

Donate with LOCO Roller Derby to CMHA!

London’s LOCO Roller Derby, your low contact roller derby league, is raising money for the Canadian Mental Health Association! The CMHA Mental Health week wraps up today, on May 9, but for the next week, we’re letting you join us. Any amount, and size donation, will be submitted in the name of LOCO Roller Derby through NogginKnickers.com by R’effin Adorabell in Toronto. You’ll help LOCO Roller Derby get set of helmet covers (or noggin knickers/helmet panties), and any costs over the $5 for materials will be directly donated to the CMHA!

We already have raised over $50. Can you help us reach $100?  You can donate cash to any LOCO Rollergirl! Please note, Paypal donations have been disabled currently. We’ll be arranging for credit card acceptance soon. For this donation drive, please contact info@locorollerderby.com. You’ll be supporting a local sports organization as well as helping reach those that are fighting against Mental Health issues. Donate today!

Come on out to your first night of skating this Friday May 7, 2010 and get a full introduction to our Skill Levels and how to measure your progress, and then on May 14th, test yourself and see where you place. Level 1 skaters have never skated and may not be very stable yet, Level 5 skaters can go skate in current WFTDA regulation bouts, if they choose to join a full-contact league. Where are you now, and where will you be in 2 months? Come join LOCO and find out!
