How We Are Organized
LOCO Roller Derby is an association of local skating clubs organized as one league throughout Ontario. Each chapter of the league has the option to individually incorporate, offering our chapters autonomy while we stay connected through common bylaws and regulations. Each city has the power to make their chapter unique and fulfill the needs of their skaters on the local level, and we maintain a mission statement along with training goals and organizational structure league wide. Every skater has a say, and the organization is dedicated to transparency and democratic values.
The head of the organization is the President of LOCO Roller Derby Ontario, and she also serves as the President of each local chapter. Her job is primarily administrative, while the day-to-day running of each chapter is maintained by the local sitting members of the board. Each board has a Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Skater Rep, each with a specified job description. Each chapter also has committees, including a Social & Events Committee and a Health & Safety Committee, as well as a Training Committee. These leading members of each chapter meet monthly to discuss the needs of their skaters, while the Vice President works as representative of the chapter to speak for their skaters on a provincial level. The Vice Presidents and President of LOCO Roller Derby Ontario meet monthly.
Starting on 1 January 2012, LOCO Roller Derby Ontario will offer a full master manual including organization and setup guidelines to further streamline our organization. If you are interested in starting a chapter of LOCO Roller Derby in your town or city, contact the current Ontario President of LOCO Roller Derby, Vanessa “Vansterdamn” Winters.
